CONNECTIONS:
April 8, 2008
A message
from Paul, upcoming events, ministry opportunities and featured products.
There is really only one thing that you long for in ministry; that somehow, someway something you have written or said will help one of God’s children to see themselves with accuracy and see God in all his glory. When this happens, change of heart and life is what follows. I fear that we quickly lose a humble sense of how deeply needy we are for God’s grace. I also fear that we have lost our awe at the majesty of God’s powerfully transforming love. The goal of ministry is simple, to be one of God’s instruments of seeing
So, it is with a grateful heart to God that we share Catherine’s story with you. Thank you for your financial and prayer support. Please keep praying for the thousands of Catherine’s out there who are still trapped in the blindness that sin brings and pray for us that God will help us to see so that we may help others to see as well.

Paul:
I want to thank you for your insight into “idols” and how that spoke to me at a crucial time. Our daughter became anorexic at age 14 (she was hardcore for 6 long years – now 21 years old and is great). One day while Kristy was so emaciated and sick, I began to cry in front of our entire family (2 other brothers, Mark and me). Kristy saw me and asked why I was crying. I told her it was hard for me to see her suffering, to which she responded, “As hard as this is, I know Jesus is with me and He knows exactly what I am feeling.” I excused myself, went to my bedroom, and slammed the door, and was angry from the core. Mark came in our bedroom and asked what was going on inside me. I said this, “I WOULD RATHER HAVE KRISTY WELL THAN HAVE JESUS’ PRESENCE IN HER LIFE. I WOULD RATHER HAVE KRISTY WELL THAN HAVING HIM WALK WITH ME THROUGH THIS.”
Yikes…IDOLATRY screamed in my heart and I knew I was in trouble. Hearing you speak many times before, God used these insights into idolatry to expose my heart. Health and comfort were my idols – I would have exchanged Jesus for them.
Graciously, God journeyed me. After 6 years of suffering, what I have learned is that God used that to expose my idols of the heart. I now know more about anorexia nervosa than I ever wanted to know. I now understand the biology of a body as it shuts down. I now know the power of this mental disease that is the number 1 killer of all mental illnesses. But most miraculously, I saw the compassion of the Body of Christ who through prayers and over $100,000 for in-patient treatment (4 separate times in Connecticut and Florida) I saw that the church is truly the hope of the world.
Health and comfort were restored to me but THEY ARE NO LONGER MY IDOLS.
Paul, thank you for being part of God’s hands and insights that prepared me to take on my idols. I will forever be grateful.
Catherine

A Shelter in the Time of Storm:
Meditations on God and Trouble
More Info and Watch Promo Video
NEW ARRIVAL!!! - A fresh, edgy, personal, challenging, and hopeful devotional on Psalm 27, a psalm that juxtaposes trouble and worship. A companion to Whiter Than Snow, a devotional based on Psalm 51.
Fifty-two meditations on Psalm 27 instruct and encourage believers to worship God through the ups and downs of life.
Psalm 27 is a psalm of trouble and worship, of difficulty and beauty, of the evil of people against people, and of the mercy of God. Because of its honesty about life in this fallen world, Psalm 27 speaks into the life of every believer. At the same time it places joyful and self-sacrificing worship right next to the trouble that is the psalm’s background theme. This juxtaposition makes Psalm 27 unique, interesting, practical, challenging, and encouraging.
A Shelter in the Time of Storm takes readers through this roller-coaster-ride of a psalm in fifty-two brief and engaging meditations. These meditations are designed to fill hearts with a patient hope that grows stronger as the trouble-spotted days go by. Reflection questions at the end of the chapter make these meditations thought-provoking and practical.
"Paul Tripp writes out of the experience of his own suffering and his skill as a pastor/counselor in helping people through times of trouble. He knows what it is like to go through the storms of life, but more importantly, he knows where to find shelter. This book will help anyone who is hoping to find refuge."
- Phil Ryken, Senior Pastor, Tenth Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia
"Can one psalm really change your life? It can if you dig deeply enough. A Shelter in the Time of Storm is Paul Tripp at his fines - excavating Psalm 27 with clarity, potency, and straight-to-the-heart relevance. When troubles come knocking, do yourself a favor: let this book teach you how to treasure no less than fifty-two life transforming truths from a grace-filled psalm."
- Dave Harvey, church care and church planting, Sovereign Grace Ministries; author

Broken-Down House:
Living Productively in a World Gone Bad
Take advantage of our special pre-publication price on Paul’s newest book scheduled for release May 31, 2009.
Picture a broken down house. We’ve all seen them—sagging and dilapidated dwellings that look as if they are in physical pain. You wonder what the house once looked like, who lived in it, and how it got into such a miserable condition. Some of us look at this kind of house and are simply overwhelmed. We quickly move on, not for a moment considering the possibility of restoration. Others of us immediately see potential. We can’t wait to get our hands on the mess and restore it to its former beauty. Sin has ravaged the beautiful house that God created. It sits in slumped and disheveled pain, groaning for the restoration that can only be accomplished by the hands of him who built it in the first place. The good news is that the divine Builder will not relent until everything about his house is made totally new again. The bad news is that you and I are living right in the middle of the restoration process. We live each day in a house that is terribly broken, where nothing works exactly as intended. But Emmanuel lives here as well, and he is at work returning his house to its former beauty. Often it doesn’t look like any real restoration is going on at all. Things seem to get messier, uglier, and less functional all the time. But that’s the way it is with restoration; things generally get worse before they get better. Someday you will live forever in a fully restored house. But right now you are called to live with peace, joy, and productivity in a place that has been sadly damaged by sin. How can you live above the damage? Even better, how can you be an active part of the restoration that is at the heart of God’s plan of redemption? That is what Broken Down House is all about.
